good
Good old SF. A little heavy (and I think wrong) about some of the philosophies is puts forward. Just think of it as what it is, fiction and enjoy it.
Great classic.
Long time admirer of "Doc" Smith
An interesting story from the "golden age" of science fiction. It's interesting to see the kinds of approaches taken to future technology by an author in the world of vacuum tubes where the concepts of "rays" were the hot item of the day.
Love that old-time sci-fi! Doc Smith knows how to tell a story and make it seem as real and natural as this morning's breakfast.
This is a well written story for the era. We had barely imagined getting of Earth at this time and these are stories written at roughly the same time a the Mars Chronicles by Burroughs. The modern reader is going to have some good giggles in the process of reading this, but it is hard fictional space opera of the time.
For those familiar with Star Trek Voyager, this is excellent and better written base material for a Black and white sci-fi holo novel.
This is an excellent story, though obviously old, but be aware that this is a short story that was originally published in a pulp magazine.
It appears as one section of "Doc" Smith's later book, Subspace Explorers and its sequel, which I also highly recommend.
